19 July -22 July 2016: Introduction to Mineral Processing 2016

July 19, 2016 - July 22, 2016 | Golden, USA

Colorado School of Mines, 1500 Illinois St

This course is designed for engineers, scientists, and others working in the mineral or particulate processing industries. It is intended to provide an overview of each of the important unit operations used in particulate processing of minerals. The fundamentals are introduced but are not overly emphasized in this course, so the course is suitable for individuals associated with the mineral industry, such as those in technical sales, regulatory agencies, and related fields. The course will also be a useful refresher for those already engaged in mineral processing activities.

The course will emphasize the unit operations utilized in industry and their application to operations. Topics covered will include:

  • Characterization (mineralogy, size, liberation)
  • Analysis of separation efficiency
  • Size reduction
  • Separations based on particle size, density, floatability, magnetic susceptibility, conductivity
  • Solid-liquid separations
  • Materials handling

The final session will concentrate on integration — how the various processes relate to each other and how they are controlled — so that the total operation can be optimized. The course will provide copies of the presentation materials. Included in this course are laboratory demonstrations of some of the processes discussed.
