Social Impact Assessment (SIA) is an important tool to inform decision makers, regulators and stakeholders, about the possible social and economic impacts of a proposed project. To be effective, it requires the active involvement of all concerned stakeholders. Centre for Science and Environment recognises this need and has developed a hands-on five-day training programme aimed at giving practical exposure to participants on SIA with specific reference to development projects, such as infrastructure, mining and other industrial projects from October 5-9, 2015.

 

The objective of this programme is to build capacity and create awareness among regulators, industry, officials from state land department, municipality, district collector, sub-divisional magistrate, developers, academician, students, NGOs and academicians to understand social impacts by sensitizing the stakeholders on the ecological perception of human habitat in India, the political economy of natural resources, governance and emerging land conflicts and the local and environmental impacts of development projects.

 

The course would also cover in detail the applicable Central/State laws and policies related to land acquisition, resettlement and rehabilitation, key provisions of the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and resettlement Act 2013, benefit sharing with communities, reconnaissance and baseline survey, land Acquisition Survey and Plan (LAP) and Preparation of Entitlement Matrix based on new Act. The programme also aims at evaluating the SIA report along with the applicable legislations in India.

 

**Note: All this would be covered through exhaustive class exercises

 

Course fee: Rs. 15,000 for developers, government officials and consultants, Rs. 10,000 for academicians, NGOs and researchers, Rs. 7,500 for students.
