At the outset of the keynote lecture session, Prof. Sunil Kumar Gupta - Dean (Student Welfare) and Professor (HAG), Department of ESE, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, extended a warm welcome to the invited keynote speaker Dr. Manoj K. M. Chaturvedi - CEO, Global Sustainability Solutions and Services QFZ LLC, Qatar and all the participants. Prof. Gupta was joined by Prof. Biswajit PaulProfessor, Department of ESE and Head, Centre for Mining Environment, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, and welcomed the keynote speaker Dr. Chaturvedi with a floral bouquet.

In his welcome address, Prof. S.K. Gupta spoke about the important role of academic platforms in fostering dialogue on real-world environmental challenges. He emphasized that such sessions are instrumental in bridging the gap between research, policy, and practice, thereby nurturing future-ready leadership in sustainability.

Following this, Dr. Avantika Chandra – Information Officer, EIACP (PC-RP), Dept. of ESE, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad introduced Dr. Chaturvedi by sharing a brief overview of his professional background and contributions.

Delivering the keynote lecture, Dr. Manoj K. M. Chaturvedi elaborated on how Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) integration is reshaping the future of business, policy, regulation, and innovation. ESG is no longer a compliance formality but a central pillar of risk resilience, stakeholder trust, and long-term competitiveness. The talk offered insights into global trends, regulatory convergence, and actionable pathways for Indian institutions to lead responsibly in an evolving global landscape.

Dr. Chaturvedi also spoke about his breakthrough book titled “The ESG Compass”, describing it as a practical guide for action rather than just awareness. Aimed at business leaders, ESG officers, consultants, and board members, the book serves as a strategic blueprint for translating ESG goals into measurable business impact. It features 15 insightful chapters aligned with global ESG priorities, over 30 real-world case studies from regions including India, the Middle East, Europe, North America, and ASEAN, and more than 22 ready-to-use tools, diagnostic templates, and frameworks. The book also offers a comprehensive 100-Day ESG Action Roadmap to help organizations embed sustainability into their operations. With in-depth coverage of key standards such as GRI, TCFD, ISSB, CSRD, BRSR, and SEC, The ESG Compass stands out as a valuable reference for integrating strategy, governance, risk, culture, and sustainability into the core of corporate decision-making.

Dr. Chaturvedi’s insights strongly resonated with the principles of Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), which advocates for mindful and sustainable choices at every level of society. By highlighting ESG as a driver of responsible business and governance, the lecture reinforced how institutional and individual actions together can accelerate the transition towards a more sustainable and climate-conscious lifestyle.

The session witnessed the active participation of 60 attendees, including research scholars, M.Tech. students, faculty members and staff, from Departments of Environmental Science & Engineering and Civil Engineering, who actively engaged in the interactive session that followed the lecture. The audience posed insightful questions, and shared perspectives, which further enriched the discourse and reflected the growing interest in ESG-driven transformation within academic and professional circles.

The event concluded with a formal felicitation of Dr. Manoj K. M. Chaturvedi by Prof. S. K. Gupta, who presented him with a memento as a token of appreciation for his valuable time and the insightful, inspiring lecture he delivered. Also present during the felicitation was Prof. Biswajit Paul. The keynote lecture served as a timely reminder of the growing significance of ESG in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals and underscored the crucial role academic institutions play in fostering responsible leadership and building a resilient, sustainable future.

The event was organized with the support of Prof. Sukumar Mishra - Director IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, and Prof. Dheeraj Kumar - Deputy Director, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad and under the guidance of Prof. Sunil Kumar Gupta - Dean (Student Welfare) & Professor (HAG), Dept. of ESE, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, Prof. Alok Sinha - HOD, Department of ESE & Coordinator, EIACP (PC-RP), IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, Prof. Biswajit Paul – Professor, Department of ESE and Head, Centre for Mining Environment, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, and Prof. Suresh Pandian E. - Associate Professor, Department of ESE & Co-coordinator, EIACP (PC-RP), IIT (ISM) Dhanbad.
