As part of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad's historic centenary celebrations, the Phase-II Plantation Drive under the "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" campaign was successfully organized on 26th January 2025 by the EIACP Programme Centre (RP) at the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering (ESE), IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, in association with the Horticulture Section, O/o Dean (Infrastructure), IIT (ISM) Dhanbad. The event witnessed active participation from approximately 150 individuals, including Deans, Faculty Members, Officers, Staff, Research Scholars, Students, and Gardeners, who came together to plant a diverse range of saplings, including Peepal, Neem, Mango, Palash, Jamun, Mahua, and Karanj.
The plantation drive, held at the IIT (ISM) Nirsa Campus, marked the successful planting of 200 saplings, emphasizing the institution's commitment to environmental conservation and sustainability. The event was graced by Prof. Dheeraj Kumar, Deputy Director, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, whose presence added inspiration and motivation to the initiative.
This significant event was organized under the able guidance of Prof. Sunil Kumar Gupta, Dean (Student Welfare), IIT (ISM) Dhanbad; Prof. Amit Rai Dixit, Dean (Infrastructure), IIT (ISM) Dhanbad; Prof. Sagar Pal, Dean (R&D), IIT (ISM) Dhanbad; Prof. Alok Sinha, HOD, Dept. of ESE & Coordinator, EIACP (PC-RP); Prof. Suresh Pandian, Associate Professor, Dept. of ESE & Co-coordinator, EIACP (PC-RP); Prof. Manish Kr. Jain, Professor, Dept. of ESE, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad; Dr. Dhiraj Kumar; Horticulture Officer, Horticulture Section, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, and Mr. Bishwajit Das, Programme Officer, EIACP (PC-RP), IIT (ISM) Dhanbad. Their meticulous planning and coordination ensured the smooth execution of the plantation drive.
The event received unwavering support from Prof. Sukumar Mishra, Director, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, and Mr. Prabodh Pandey, Registrar, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, whose encouragement and guidance were instrumental in its success.
Following the plantation drive, an educational excursion tour to Maithon Dam, present in the Dhanbad district of Jharkhand State was organized for students and research scholars. The trip provided a unique and enriching experience, allowing participants to connect with nature and gain insights into the region's natural surroundings and ecological significance. This hands-on learning opportunity allowed participants to observe and appreciate the intricate interconnections between natural ecosystems and conservation efforts, enriching their academic and practical understanding.
In addition to being an educational opportunity, the excursion also offered a chance for participants to relax and rejuvenate after their dedicated efforts during the plantation drive. The serene atmosphere of Maithon Dam served as the perfect backdrop for meaningful interactions and unwinding, making the day both refreshing and inspiring.
The Phase-II Plantation Drive under the "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" campaign stands as a testament to IIT (ISM) Dhanbad's dedication to environmental sustainability, biodiversity conservation, and community engagement. The event not only marked a significant step toward a greener planet but also fostered ecological awareness among participants.
