EIACP (PC-RP) on Environmental Problems of Mining

The Department of Environmental Science and Engineering, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad on 25.10.2024 organized an insightful Interaction with Industry Person, Mr. N Senthil Kumar, COO & Designated Partner of Global Lab and Consultancy Services LLP. The programme was organized to encourage Industry-Academia Collaboration for Sustainable Solutions.

The program commenced with a warm welcome address by Prof. Saravanan Pichiah, Professor, Dept. of ESE, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad. Prof. Saravanan highlighted the importance of industry engagement in academic institutions and emphasized the department's commitment to fostering collaborations that address real-world environmental challenges.

Mr. Kumar shared valuable insights into his organization's mission, expertise, and the impactful work they undertake in environmental consultancy and testing services. His talk emphasized the potential for collaborative ventures between academia and industry, particularly in addressing environmental challenges through innovative solutions. The interaction also opened discussions on future collaboration between Global Lab and Consultancy Services LLP and the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering, paving the way for impactful industry-academia partnerships aimed at driving sustainable progress.

Following Mr. Kumar’s presentation, Prof. Biswajit Paul, Professor, Dept. of ESE, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad addressed the students, underscoring the value of industry interaction for enhancing academic and professional growth. Prof. Paul encouraged students to actively engage in these collaborative opportunities to gain hands-on experience and align their skills with industry needs.

In addition, Prof. Suresh Pandian, Associate Professor, Dept. of ESE & Coordinator, EIACP (PC-RP), IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, highlighted the IIT (ISM) EIACP Centre’s Green Skill Development Programme (GSDP), a specialized 3-month certificate course on "Pollution Monitoring: Air and Water". Prof. Pandian discussed the potential for collaboration with Global Lab and Consultancy Services LLP to induct trained GSDP graduates who possess in-depth knowledge of air and water quality monitoring and testing. These skilled candidates are well-prepared to support environmental consultancy projects, carry out field studies, and contribute to impactful environmental solutions, making them a valuable asset for organizations focused on sustainability.

The event was attended by 30 participants, including faculty members and students from the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering. This interaction fostered meaningful discussions on potential collaborative ventures, positioning IIT (ISM) Dhanbad as a key player in bridging the gap between academic knowledge and industry practice while successfully underscoring the importance of industry engagement in academic environments to foster practical, research-driven solutions for environmental challenges.
