On 7th September 2024, IIT (ISM) EIACP Programme Centre (RP), along with 53 other EIACP Centres across the country, participated in the All India Coordinator’s Meet, held at Silver Oak Hall, India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. The event was organized by the TERI EIACP (RP) and saw active participation from around 150 attendees, including Coordinators, Programme Officers, and other EIACP staff members.
The programme commenced with an inaugural session, starting with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries: Ms. Nameeta Prasad - Joint Secretary, MoEFCC, Dr. Unmana Sarangi - Director, MoEF&CC and Dr. Dipankar Saharia - Senior Director, TERI.
Dr. Unmana Sarangi - Director, MoEF&CC delivered the welcome address followed by an introductory address by Dr. Dipankar Saharia - Senior Director, TERI. The keynote inaugural address was then delivered by Ms. Nameeta Prasad - Joint Secretary, MoEFCC, who emphasized on the importance of the EIACP programme in advancing environmental sustainability.
Session-I began with a brief overview of the EIACP scheme, presented by Ms. Lipika Roy - Deputy Director, MoEFCC, setting the tone for the event. Short presentations were delivered by each EIACP Resource Partner and Hub, showcasing their work in different regions. This session also featured in-depth discussions on key administrative and operational issues, led by Ms. Lipika Roy.
Post lunch sessions included a discussion on the Green Skill Development Programme (GSDP), led by Ms Swati Singh - Program Officer, EIACP Cell, MoEFCC, followed by a session on capacity building, Mission LiFE, and other emerging ideas, conducted by Ms Sutanuka Sarkar - Assistant Director, MoEFCC. The final session of the day, focused on financial issues, was led by Mr. Rahul Bhatia, Research Officer, MoEFCC.
In the concluding session the best-performing EIACP Centres from six zones of the country were felicitated with a memento and certificate, presented by Ms. Nameeta Prasad, Joint Secretary, MoEFCC, and Dr. Unmana Sarangi - Director, MoEF&CC. The best performing EIACP Centres list includes:
- North Zone: G.B. Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment, Almora, EAICP (PC-RP).
- Delhi Based: International Institute of Health and Hygiene (IIHH), Delhi EIACP (PC-RP).
- North-East Zone: Forest and Environment Department, Sikkim EIACP (HUB).
- East Zone: Indian Institute of Technology (ISM) Dhanbad EIACP (PC-RP).
- West Zone: Gujarat Cleaner Production Centre (GCPC), Gandhinagar EIACP (PC-RP).
- South Zone: Institute of Forest Genetics and Tree Breeding (IFGTB), Coimbatore EIACP (RP).
The event concluded with vote of thanks delivered by Dr. P. K. Bhattacharya - Associate Director, TERI and Coordinator, TERI EIACP (RP).
IIT(ISM) EIACP Programme Centre (RP) awarded the Best EIACP Centre in the East-Zone.
The EIACP Programme Centre (RP) at the Department of Environmental Science & Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology (ISM) Dhanbad, has been awarded with the Best Performing EIACP Centre in the East Zone under the Regional category awards. This recognition was conferred by the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change (MoEF&CC), Government of India, during the All India EIACP Coordinator's Meet held in New Delhi on September 7th, 2024.
The award, comprising a memento and a certificate, was presented to IIT (ISM) Dhanbad by Ms. Nameeta Prasad - Joint Secretary, MoEFCC, and Dr. Unmana Sarangi - Director, MoEF&CC. Representing the IIT (ISM) EIACP Programme Centre (PC-RP) were Prof. Alok Sinha – HOD, Department of Environmental Science & Engineering and Coordinator of EIACP (PC-RP), and Mr. Bishwajit Das, Programme Officer, IIT (ISM) EIACP (PC-RP).
This award is a testament to the concerted efforts of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, Department of Environmental Science & Engineering and EIACP Programme Centre (RP) in working towards the core objectives of environmental information dissemination, organizing awareness campaigns, and conducting impactful outreach activities. It recognizes the Centre’s unwavering dedication to promoting sustainable practices, particularly through its various initiatives aimed at engaging the general masses.
Among the many notable campaigns spearheaded by the Centre is the promotion of water conservation techniques under the Save Water theme of Mission LiFE such as the Matka Plantation Recharge Technique (MPRT), which has been widely embraced by the communities it serves. The award not only reflects the hard work and commitment of the IIT(ISM) EIACP team but also highlights the trust and support of the partners, collaborators, and stakeholders who have contributed to these efforts.
Moving forward, the Centre remains committed to its mission of fostering environmental stewardship, building capacity, and empowering communities. With continued focus on sustainability, the IIT(ISM) EIACP Programme Centre (RP) looks forward to ensuring that its outreach activities continue to make a lasting impact across society.
