EIACP (PC-RP) on Environmental Problems of Mining

On the occasion of World Nature Conservation Day, observed annually on July 28th, the EIACP Programme Centre (RP) at the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology (ISM) Dhanbad, hosted a meaningful Plantation Drive under the campaign “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam”. This unique event aimed to celebrate the profound bond between mother and child while contributing to environmental conservation.

During the event, 35 mother-child pairs participated by planting a sapling each, pledging to protect, nurture, and oversee its growth. This act symbolized their commitment to nurturing nature and fostering a sustainable future. The event was inaugurated by Prof. Dheeraj Kumar, Deputy Director, IIT(ISM) Dhanbad, along with Mr. Prabodh Pandey, Registrar, IIT(ISM) Dhanbad, and Prof. Alok Sinha, HOD, Department of Environmental Science & Engineering and Coordinator of EIACP (PC-RP). They were joined by other Deans, officers, faculty members, staff, and participants.

In his inaugural address, Prof. Dheeraj Kumar, Deputy Director, IIT(ISM) Dhanbad emphasized the critical importance of tree plantation in combating global warming and climate change, advocating for a sustainable lifestyle. The participating mother-child pairs planted various saplings, including Peepal, Teak, Neem, Palash, Mango, Jamun, Sapota, Guava, etc. each contributing to the greenery and ecological balance of the campus.

The event was organized in collaboration with the Horticulture Section, O/o Dean (Infrastructure), IIT(ISM) Dhanbad, highlighting the institute’s collective effort towards environmental stewardship. This heartwarming initiative not only reinforced the special bond between mothers and their children but also underscored the essential role of tree plantation in creating a greener, healthier planet for future generations.
