Workshop on Green Clearances for Coal Mining Projects

Shri Amrit Lal Meena, Secretary, Govt. of India, Ministry of Coal, speaking at a workshop on green clearances, including environment and forest clearances, for coal mining projects, organised by the Ministry of Coal emphasized the Coal Ministry's commitment to sustainability and the need to reduce coal imports. He highlighted efforts made towards land restoration and large-scale reforestation initiatives by the Coal Mining companies.

 

Shri M. Nagaraju, Additional Secretary, Govt. of India, Ministry of Coal, spoke in his opening remarks about the need to maintain a critical balance between economic development & environmental protection. He stressed the importance of expediting clearances to ensure India’s energy security.

 

Shri P.M. Prasad, Chairman, Coal India, stated that MoEF&CC has taken various proactive steps to expedite clearances and expressed hope that Coal India will achieve its coal production target of 838 million tonnes in the current fiscal, facilitated by timely clearances. He further stated that CIL is actively involved in the Government of India's Green Credit initiative, having registered for over 1500 Ha and aiming to reach 5000 Ha in the near future.

 

Dr. B. Veera Reddy, Director (Technical), Coal India, broadly spoke on the issues related to the Parivesh portal, and environmental clearance processes for the underground mining projects.
