On the 31st of May, 2024, the Department of Environmental Science & Engineering at IIT(ISM) Dhanbad had the esteemed honor of hosting Prof. Sukumar Mishra, the newly appointed Director of the institute, Indian institute of technology (ISM) Dhanbad. His visit marked a significant occasion for the department, bringing together faculty members, technical staff, and research scholars for a comprehensive interaction and a memorable photo session. Prof. Sukumar Mishra was accompanied by Prof. Dheeraj Kumar, Dy. Director, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad.
The day's proceedings commenced with a warm reception and welcome extended to Prof. Sukumar Mishra and Prof. Dheeraj Kumar by Prof. Anshumali, HOD, Dept. of ESE along with other Faculty Members, Staffs and Research Scholars of the department. A photo session followed, capturing the presence of the distinguished guests alongside the Faculty Members, Technical Staffs, EIACP Staff, Dept. Staff and Research Scholars.
Following the photo session, Prof. Mishra and Prof. Dheeraj engaged in a detailed interaction with the faculty members at the GSM Conference Room of Dept. of ESE. This interaction was a platform for the department to showcase its ongoing research activities, achievements, and future plans. The interaction started with the brief introduction of all the Faculty Members, Technical Staffs and EIACP Staffs of the department followed by a presentation delivered by Prof. Riya Dutta, Asst. Prof., Dept. of ESE and Prof. Vittal H., Asst. Prof., Dept. of ESE highlighting about the department, its innovative research activities and significant deliverables that the department has been focusing on with last five-years data (2019-2023). Prof. Mishra was also brief about the Environmental Information, Awareness, Capacity Building, and Livelihood Programme Centre (EIACP) at Dept. of ESE and how this centre has been instrumental in organizing various initiatives aimed at promoting environmental awareness. Notably, the Centre has been actively involved in propagating the Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) campaign, organizing awareness programs and activities that encourage sustainable living and environmental stewardship among the community.
Prof. Mishra expressed his keen interest in the diverse research areas being explored within the department. He encouraged the faculty to continue their dedication to addressing critical environmental challenges through scientific inquiry and innovation. His insights on interdisciplinary collaboration and the importance of impactful research resonated deeply with the attendees, fostering a renewed sense of purpose and direction.
The discussion also touched upon the deliverables of the department, emphasizing the practical applications and societal impact of the research work being undertaken.
