IIT(ISM) EIACP (PC-RP) Centre and Department of Environmental Science & Engineering, IIT(ISM) Dhanbad conducted awareness/outreach activities on "Banki Jan Chetana Andolan": an awareness programme in-line with Save Water theme of Mission LiFE, under the guidance of Prof. Anshumali, Head, Dept. of ESE and coordinator, EIACP (PC-RP), IIT(ISM) Dhanbad. The awareness/outreach activity was conducted among different schools, colleges, communities and villages of Garhwa district, Jharkhand and received over-whelming responses. During the awareness programme students, teachers, staffs and peoples were informed about the campaign for saving river Banki, a small river that flows in Garhwa district of Jharkhand and shared with them the astonishing findings of the research work carried out by the research team (Mr. Sanchit Kumar, Senior Research Fellow, Mr. Rahul Kumar Pandey, Project Assistant, Mr. Rahul Kumar Gupta, Research Scholar) at IIT(ISM) Dhanbad under the guidance of Prof. Anshumali, HOD/ESE & Coordinator, IIT(ISM) EIACP (PC-RP). The people were educated about the shrinking of Transboundary Rivers across the globe due to disappearing tributaries and streams, leading to unpredictable climate and loss of agricultural productivity besides others. Research also suggests delineation of administrative boundaries of Transboundary Rivers to ensure protection of their natural boundaries which otherwise may lead to unpredictable climate, floods and droughts, loss of agricultural productivity, pandemic, disaster and disruption of valuable ecosystem services. By valuing water and recognizing the critical role that rivers play in our water systems, we can help to ensure a sustainable future for our planet and all its inhabitants.
