SERB Sponsored Online Training & Skill Internship (VRITIKA) programme was conducted on the topic Nanotechnology by the Department of Environmental Science & Engineering of Indian Institute of Technology (ISM) Dhanbad Jharkhand from 28 June to 2 July 2021. This program was hosted by the program coordinator Prof. Saravan P, Associate Professor of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad and was inaugurated by the Director of IIT (ISM) Prof. Rajiv Shekhar. The 5 day long training programme witnessed key lectures by prominent speakers who are champions in this field; Prof. P. Gopinath, Professor, IIT Roorkee, Prof. P. Jeevanandam, Professor, IIT Roorkee, Dr. C. S. Gopinath, Chief Scientist, NCL, Pune, Dr. Abhay Sachdev, Scientist, CSIR-CSIO, Pune and Prof. Manoranjan Kar, Associate Professor, IIT Patna. The topics covered were Impact of nanotechnology in Energy and Environment and Healthcare, synthesis of nano materials by hydrothermal /PVD-CVD, chemical Methods, high Energy Milling, fundamentals of characterization of nanomaterials by XPS and XRD. Virtual laboratory sessions were also conducted on the experimental procedures of hydrothermal Synthesis, CVD-PVD, top down method and sol gel methods. More than 200 students currently pursuing masters in various fields of science and technology attended and benefitted from this training programme. An online quiz session was also arranged to actively engage and assess student’s progress. A validatory speech was given by our honorary Associate Dean (R&D) Prof. Shalivahan which marked the official closure of the internship programme.
