170th Foundation Day Celebrated in Geological Survey of India with pomp and Grandeur

Geological Survey of India (GSI) today celebrated its 170th Foundation Day at the Central Headquarters in Kolkata with Pomp and Grandeur.

 

The celebrations started in the morning with the unveiling an exhibition at the Ashutosh Birth Centenary Hall on the work done by GSI in the fields of Mineral Exploration, Aerial Survey, Marine Survey, Gemology, and their expeditions to Antarctica. Shri M. Sridhar, Honourable Director General, GSI cut the ribbon to unveil the exhibition.

 

The focus then shifted to B.R. Ambedkar Hall where the formally the celebration started with cutting of 170th year cake. Shri M. Sridhar, Director General of GSI, then felicitated the superannuated and ex-servicemen of GSI for their contribution towards the growth of the organisation.

 

In his foundation day speech Shri Sridhar commended the efforts put in by the staff members of GSI. He said, “This is indeed a special day when we not only reflect our achievements and contribution to our nation, but we also think about innovation and transformation for keeping GSI relevant to the nation and meeting the expectations. Apart from continuously generating baseline geo-science data, the contribution of GSI towards industrial growth of India, in general, and mining sector, in particular needs no elaboration”. He also added,” With the finest and most competent pool of earth scientists, GSI throughout its long journey has ventured into new frontiers of science imbibing new techniques and tools in the emerging Science and Technology. Along with efficiently and fruitfully carrying out field activities, GSI today possesses world class laboratory facilities”.

 

The celebrations reached its crescendo with the staging of comedy drama “Bhushandir Mathey” by Chandashree Hooghly.
