The 5th Environment Meet of Tata Steel

The 5th Environment Meet of Tata Steel was inaugurated today by Anand Sen, President, TQM and Steel Business. It is an annual event organized with the objective of capacity building and to drive environmental excellence through knowledge sharing, leveraging internal capabilities and synergising organisational level efforts.

 

Speaking on the occasion, Anand Sen emphasized the fact that over the years, the width of participants for the Environment meet has extended from Environment Managers to cover Operations, Maintenance and Corporate Functions (e.g. R&D, Corporate Sustainability, Process Technology, Regulatory Affairs, etc.).

 

Further, the scope of the Meet has been further expanded this year to cover Joint Ventures, Subsidiaries of Tata Steel in India, Europe and South East Asia. Representatives from Tata Steel Indian operations spread across India, Europe and South East Asia are attending alongside representatives of Tata Steel BSL Ltd, Tinplate Co.of India Ltd., Jamipol, Tata Pigment, Tata Sponge, Tata Metaliks, JUSCO, JCAPCPL and others.

 

90 delegates attended the inauguration.

 

Earlier, Dr. Amit Ranjan Chakraborty, Chief Environment Management, Tata Steel welcomed dignitaries and participants at the Environment Meet 2018-19 being held during December 12-14, 2018 at the Beldih Club, Jamshedpur. Dr. Paul Brooks, Director SH&E, Tata Steel Europe, Mr.Sanjiv Paul, Vice President (Safety, Health & Environment) addressed the participants in the Environment Meet 2018-19. A Tata Steel booklet on Environmental Articles received during World Environment Day 2018 was released by President (TQM & Steel Business) in presence of VP(SHS), Director(SH&E)TSE and Chief(Environment Management). Amongst expert speakers, Dr.Gurdeep Singh, IIT Indian School of Mines, spoke on “Environmental Sustainability Challenges for Iron and Steel Industry”, Dr. Abhijit Mitra, Calcutta University spoke on “Upgradation of Environment through Forestry & Plantation in the backdrop of Climate Change” at the Environment Meet 2018-19 followed by C.D.Goswami of MECON and Prof. K.Pathak, HOD Mining Engineering, IIT Kharagpur. Carbon Management through Energy Efficiency in India and Europe and Tata Group’s Sustainability drive presented by AVP Tata Sustainability Group –.Alka Upadhyay were discussed in the afternoon session.

 

The third day is planned to be celebrated as Technology Day with focus on Air Pollution Control Equipment & High Efficiency Air Cleaning Technologies and Online calibration of emission monitoring systems. The maiden Environment Meet was held in 2014 covering Environment representatives of Tata Steel’s various sites and divisions. Over the years, the Meet has become an annual event for the Environment fraternity.
