A training program on “Environmental Aspects of Mining Industry” was organized at ISM, Kolkata Centre, NBCC Complex, New Town, Kolkata – The City of Joy, during 03-05 September 2015 by Department of Environmental Science and Engineering, Centre of Mining Environment. The course was coordinated by Dr.Biswajit Paul, Associate Professor and Prof A. K. Singh, Rajiv Gandhi Chair Professor & HOD, Environmental Science and Engineering Department. Prof.S.P.Banerjee, Former Director ISM Dhanbad gave the inaugural address. Eminent experts like Mr Debal Ray, Chief Conservator of Forest, West Bengal Government, Prof M.K.Ghose, Emeritus Professor, Department of Biotechnology West Bengal University, Kolkata, Mr Ranajit Das, Senior Industry Process Consultant, Geovia, Australia delivered their lecture in the program. ISM faculty like Prof A.K.Pal, Dr.Manish Kumar Jain delivered lectures in the program. Executives from Hindustan Copper Ltd, Coal India Ltd (Head Office), Bharat Coking Coal Ltd, Western Coalfields Ltd, South Eastern Coalfields Ltd, Singareni Collieries Company Ltd, Adani Enterprises Ltd and Balasore Alloys Ltd participated in the program. Subject areas like Sustainable Mining Practices, Environmental Benign Mine Planning, Mine Closure, Environmental Legislation and EIA/EMP, Public Hearing, Environmental Audit, Reclamation of Degraded Mine Land through the Application of Shelf Life Concept, Forest Clearance, Air and Noise Pollution, Water Pollution and Control measures, Application of Remote Sensing & GIS in Environmental Management of Mining, Mine planning in Environmentally Sensitive Area, etc were covered in the program. The participants were highly benefited by the training program.
