ENVIS - ISM/CME Celebrated "World Environment Day 2015"

 

 

 

 

On the Occasion of the World Environment Day 5th June 2015

 

The 5th June, World Environment Day is celebrated, like every year by the Deptt of Environmental Science & Engineering and Centre of mining Environment (instituted as Centre of Excellence, by the Ministry of Environment & Forest, New Delhi in 1987) by organizing Sit and Draw drawing competition among school children (upto class X) and tree plantation in ISM campus.

 

Approximately, 120 school children from nursery to standard X, categorized in 4 groups, took part in the drawing competition on different environmental themes such as:

 

  1. Save tree, save life (Nursery to Std I)
  2. keep your area clean and green (Std II to IV)
  3. Save environment, Save future (Std VI to VIII) and
  4. 7 Billion Dreams. One Planet. Consume with care (Std IX & X)

 

The function was inaugurated by prof S Mohanty, Dean (Academics), ISM followed by tree plantation. During the inauguration, Prof Mohanty emphasized the importance of 5th june and explained the theme of this year "7 Billion Dreams. One Planet. Consume with Care" to create awareness among the children. From each category, best three and one consolation drawing will be selected by the Judge Mrs Bidisha Chaterji, Principal (ex) Delhi Public School, Asansol and prizes will be awarded by the Director, ISM on 15th August 2015.

 

Prof S K Maiti, HOD/ESE and other faculty members, research scholars and staff members were actively involved in planting 435 saplings. various types plants, such as fruit tress (Mango, Jamun, Litchi, jackfruit, Lemon, Papaya), flowering plants (Bakul, Nerium red, Hibiscus, pride of India, bougainvillea) and timber trees (Teak, Sal, Mahua, Peepal, Bargat, Putanjeeva) etc.. were planted in different locations of the campus. To popularize the theme, special caps were printed with the theme "7 Billion Dreams. One Planet. Consume with Care" and distributed to all the members and even to the NGO organization of ISM- Kartavya. Also on this Environment day the first edition of the Magazine "ENVISION: The Possibilities of Greener Earth" was issued and distributed among the members.
