CME ORGANISED 11th PROFESSOR S. K. BOSE MEMORIAL LECTURE

Centre of Mining Environment (CME) organised 11th Professor S.K.Bose Memorial Lecture on April 19, 2012 at Golden Jubilee Lecture Theatre (GJLT). Shri N. K. Nanda, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, National Mineral Development Corporation Ltd., Hyderabad delivered this special lecture on “Sustainable Mining and Environment”. Prof D.C Panigrahi, Director ISM, Prof S. Mohanty, Associate Dean (Academics), Shri L.K.Bose, Former Director CIL, officials from DGMS, CIMFR, BCCL, SAIL, NMDC, Tata Steel, ISM faculty and students attended the lecture. Shri Nanda briefly described about how the scientific and technological developments have made today’s waste into tomorrow’s resources. He enlightened the august gathering by congratulating the mining organizations for playing a very significant role in India’s development. He said that proper exploitation of mineral resources is the key for success for every mining company as well as for the nation. He said that without metals and fuel minerals life is unimaginable. He laid emphasis on the economical, ecological and societal sustainability of the mining industry through development and implementation of CSR, R&R and Sustainable Development Framework (SDF) Policies. He also discussed various environmental degradation caused by the industry and suggested mitigation measures. The lecture was very informative and was highly beneficial to the students, faculty and the executives present in the memorial lecture.
