Inauguration of Two Day’s National Conference on ‘Technological Advancements in Waste Management: Challenges and Opportunities - 2023’ at IIT(ISM) Dhanbad, Jharkhand on 04.12.2023

Department of Environmental Science & Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines) Dhanbad in association with EIACP Programme Centre (RP) and TEXMiN Foundation is organizing a Two Day’s National Conference on ‘Technological Advancements in Waste Management: Challenges and Opportunities - 2023’ at IIT(ISM) Dhanbad, Jharkhand.

 

The National Conference TAWMCO-2023 was inaugurated at GJLT Auditorium, IIT(ISM) Dhanbad on 04th December 2023, at 10:00 AM by Dr. Ritesh Prasad Gurung, Scientist E/Additional Director, CPCB as Guest of Honour, Prof. J.K. Pattanayak, Director (Officiating), IIT-ISM, Prof. Anshumali, Chairman, TAWMCO-2023 & HOD/Dept. of ESE, IIT-ISM & Coordinator/EIACP (PC-RP), Prof. Vipin Kumar, Convener, TAWMCO-2023 & Associate Professor/Dept. of ESE and Prof. M.K. Jain, Co-convener, TAWMCO-2023 & Professor/Dept. of ESE along with the presence of Faculty Members, Staff, Administrations from IIT(ISM) and invited esteemed guests, keynote speakers and delegates from eminent organizations and institution from all over the India.

 

At the outset of the programme all the dignitaries were welcome at the dais with flower bouquet which was followed by the lamp lightening ceremony.

 

The welcome address was delivered by Prof. Vipin Kumar, Convener, TAWMCO-2023. Prof. Vipin Kumar in his address briefly informed about the structure of the programme and outlined the 2 Days activities along with the six numbers of technical sessions being organized during this Two Day’s National Conference.

 

Prof. Anshumali, Chairman, TAWMCO-2023 delivered the opening remarks and highlighted about waste management while emphasizing on action plan for river rejuvenation, an issue of concern due to discharge of untreated and partially treated sewage from cities/towns and industrial effluents in their respective catchments. Prof. Anshumali also briefed about the Save Water and Reduce Waste themes of Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment); the mantra introduced by our Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to the world at the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) in Glasgow. Prof. Anshumali also outlined about the Dept. of Environmental Science & Engineering and about the Environmental Information, Awareness, Capacity Building and Livelihood Programme (EIACP) Centre.

 

Prof. J.K. Pattanayak, Director (Officiating), IIT (ISM) Dhanbad delivered the inaugural address. Prof. J.K. Pattanayak emphasized on the importance of Waste Management in India and worldwide. He also highlighted the new technologies development and practices that are being used by the developed nations to deal with various types of wastes and how India can come up with indigenous cost effective such technologies to answer the country’s waste management issues and move towards Net Zero. Prof. J.K. Pattanayak also talked about Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) and said that we all at our individual level can bring about changes in our lifestyle to cope up with this issue of waste management at our household level and reduces the damage on the environment and improves your health.

 

Guest of Honour, Dr. Ritesh Prasad Gurung, Scientist E/Additional Director, CPCB delivered the keynote address. Dr. Ritesh Prasad Gurung in his address highlighted the various regulatory and polices that have been formulated by CPCB related to waste management and the need to assess these regulatory and polices time to time while bringing about changes in technologies with the evolution of mankind.

 

The National Conference TAWMCO 2023 Souvenir was also released during the inaugural programme. At the end Prof. M.K. Jain, Co-convener, TAWMCO-2023, delivered the vote of thanks. The inaugural session ended with the recitation of the National Anthem.

 

This conference is intended to bring academicians, scientists, industrialists, researchers and students together on a common platform to confer and exchange ideas on current developments, findings and progress in the field of waste management, recognizing it as an asset or resource. This National Conference aims to address the India’s Intended Nationally Determined Contribution, Sustainable Development Goals and the National Action Plan on Climate Change through “Technological Advancements in Waste Management”. Around 250 esteemed guests, keynote speakers and delegates from eminent organizations and institution from all over India attended the event.

 

This conference is supported by Ministry of Science & Technology, Govt. of India and sponsored by eminent industries like, Adani Power Ltd, Gujarat, UltraTech Cement Ltd., Raipur, Chhattisgarh and Prism Johnson Ltd., Maharashtra. The publishing partner of the National Conference is Springer.
