8th India Water Impact Summit 2023 organized by CGanga and NMCG on Nov 22-24 2023 at New Delhi

The 8th Edition of the India Water Impact Summit (IWIS) & 1st Climate Investments and Technology Impact Summit [CITIS] was organized on November 22, 2023, at the Dr Ambedkar International Centre in New Delhi. The summit was organized by the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) and the Center for Ganga River Basin Management and Studies (cGanga), from November 22 to 24, 2023. The theme of IWIS 2023 is ‘Development vis-à-vis Land, Water and Rivers,’ aimed at uniting scientific experts, stakeholders, and government representatives addressed dynamic challenges and opportunities in India’s water sector during this summit.

 

This present summit was a coupled system of twin summits – the India Water Impact Summit (IWIS) and the Climate Investment and Technology Impact Summit (CITIS), wherein the latter summit was streamlined to bind potential investors with technology providers after review and testing of new technologies and innovative business models, implementation of proven new technologies, adopting suitable financing mechanisms, and collaborating within multiple sectors such as energy, agriculture, urban management, transport, and infrastructure development that are intricately linked with climate, air, land, rivers, and water management.

 

During the span of three days of the 8th India Water Impact Summit (IWIS) various intensive expert discussions on the themes of “Samarth Ganga and Productive Land” (highlighting the inter-dependability of Land and Rivers), and “Lifestyle for Rivers” (in the context of the ongoing national initiative of Lifestyle for Environment) were held along with series of other in-depth discussions on specific aspects of river management where successful or promising aspects of river restoration and conservation were shared between India and other countries for replication – the twinning of river management, tools and techniques for different river systems around the world.

 

Prof. Anshumali, Professor & Head, Dept of ESE & Coordinator EIACP (PC-RP), IIT(ISM) Dhanbad attended the 8th India Water Impact Summit 2022 as invited distinguished panelist for the session with theme "Digital Tools for River Management". The session was led by Prof. Vinod Tare (Professor & Founding Head, cGanga, IIT Kanpur), along with featured presentations from Mr. Tomaz Rodic (CEO, Space.SI), Mr. Kees Bons (Expert advisor on River Basin Management, specialized in S.E. Asia at Deltares, Neatherland), Prof. Anshumali (Professor & Head, Dept. of ESE and Coordinator, EIACP (PC-RP), IIT(ISM) Dhanbad) and Sh. Somasekhar Rao (Director (Technical), ACIWRM, Govt. of Karnataka). The discussions focused on crucial aspects such as rethinking the future and productive land.
