The EIACP (PC-RP) at Department of Environmental Science & Engineering, IIT(ISM) Dhanbad organized various activities under Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) campaign 3.0 .The SHS campaign was initiated under the joint auspices of Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DDWS) and Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) in order to carry out shramdaan activities intended to generate jan andolan through community participation, to give impetus on implementation of Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM), to promote the importance of a sampoorna swachh village, to further the idea that sanitation is everyone's responsibility. The theme for this year's SHS 2023 campaign is 'Garbage Free India' with focus on visual cleanliness and welfare of Safai Mitras. The day also signifies the ninth anniversary of the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM), initiated by Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in the year 2014.
IIT(ISM) EIACP (PC-RP) at Department of Environmental Science & Engineering in association with IIT(ISM) Dhanbad under Swachhata Hi Sewa campaign organized Cleanliness Drive: Ek Tareekh Ek Ghanta Ek Saath, an initiative to engage in one hour of “shramdaan” (voluntary labour) for cleanliness at 10 am on October 1st 2023 as a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi. The drive was led by Prof. J K Pattanayak, Officiating Director, Prof. Dheeraj Kumar, Deputy Director, Prof. Anshumali, Head, Dept. of ESE & Coordinator, EIACP(PC-RP), Prof. M. K. Singh, Dean Student Welfare and other heads, officials, staff and students were present during the program.
The drive began from Oval Ground with all the participants congregating at the ground for the Swachhata Pledge for shramdan under Ek Tareekh Ek Ghanta for Swachh Bharat during which they took the oath to devote time and remain committed towards cleanliness.
Prof Rajani Singh, Dean Media Branding Cell, recited the pledge and all the participants took the pledge “I will not litter not let others litter. I will initiate the quest for cleanliness with myself, my family, my locality, my village and my workplace”, and also took the pledge for devoting 100 hours per year i.e., two hours per week to voluntarily work for cleanliness.
After that, IIT(ISM) EIACP (PC-RP) organized photo session at Mission LiFE Selfie booth. All the IIT(ISM) community took selfie at Mission LiFE Selfie point. Prof. J K Pattanayak, Officiating Director said “We have conducted the drive to spread awareness as per the Swachhata Hi Sewa campaign”. This was then followed by Swachhata march which began from the oval garden and proceeded towards the IIT(ISM) main gate and Police Line area of Dhanbad city with Swachhata slogans being voiced out by the participants.
During the Shramdaan event the intensive cleaning of the campus, vegetable market, fish market, fruit market, mini market and nearby roads were carried out. Nukkad Natak was also performed by the students of IIT(ISM) to sensitize the audience to keep the surroundings clean by not littering. A total of 400 nos. of participants including faculty members, students, officers, staff, security personnel and sanitation workers selflessly served the cleanliness drive.
