On 2nd October 2023, IIT(ISM) EIACP (PC-RP) at Department of Environmental Science & Engineering, IIT(ISM) Dhanbad organized "Mission LiFE Cycle Rally: Reduce Single Use Plastic" Awareness Drive under Swchchata Hi Sevan Campaign 2023. The program kick started with Mission LiFE Pledge and “Say No to Single Use Plastic” pledge recited by Prof. Rajani Singh, Dean Media Branding Cell in the presence of Prof. J K Pattanayak, Officiating Director, Prof. Dheeraj Kumar, Deputy Director, Prof. Anshumali, Head, Dept. of ESE & Coordinator, EIACP(PC-RP), Prof. M. K. Singh, Dean Student Welfare and other heads, officials, staff and students of the Institute, who all took the pledge and selflessly served Swachhata Hi Seva awareness drive.
This was followed by commencement of Mission LiFE cycle rally cum awareness campaign during which students, faculty members, officers, staff, and security personnel’s rode bicycles and voiced out slogans to beat and reduce single use plastics to protect our environment. The participants led by Prof. J K Pattanayak, Director and Prof. Anshumali, Head, Dept. of ESE & Coordinator, EIACP(PC-RP) of the institute, went to different shop keepers selling vegetables, grocery shops, pavement fish sellers and fruit sellers. They convinced them to avoid using single use plastic and persuaded them to request their customers to come along with cloth or jute bags to purchase anything and avoid using single use plastic in their kitchen, offices and elsewhere and also to convince others to not use SUPs by apprising them about the ill effects of use of plastics on the environment as well as human health due to their non-biodegradable nature.
Cotton/jute bags were also distributed among people at vegetables market, grocery shops, pavement fish sellers and fruit sellers during Mission LiFE Cycle Rally: Reduce SUPs awareness drive under Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign 2023 to promote usage of cotton/jute bags instead of plastic bags with the vision of Plastic Free Dhanbad city. IIT(ISM) EIACP(PC-RP) organized this event with active participation of around 150 nos. of the faculty members, students, officers, staff, security personnel and selflessly served the Mission LiFE: Cycle rally cum awareness drive.
A photo session at Mission LiFE selfie booth was also organized, where in Director, Dy. Director, Deans, Heads, Officials, Staff and students of the Institute took selfie at the Mission LiFE Selfie point.
This year, 2nd October, marks the 153rd birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, the father of our nation, whose inspiring ideas continue to impact many. The day also signifies the ninth anniversary of the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM), initiated by Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in the year 2014.
