IIT(ISM) EIACP (PC-RP), Department of Environmental Science & Engineering, IIT(ISM) Dhanbad celebrated World Ozone Day on 16th September 2023 by organizing Keynote Lecture and Quiz Competition for school/college students, at Dept. of ESE Seminar Hall. The event was inaugurated by Chief Guest, Prof. Dheeraj Kumar, Deputy Dirtector, IIT(ISM) Dhanbad. Prof. Dheeraj Kumar in his address talked about the importance of ozone layer and the need for creating awareness for preservation of the ozone layer. Prof. Anshumali, HOD, Dept. of ESE & Coordinator, IIT(ISM) Dhanbad discussed about the individual Lifestyle Choices for Better Health and Sustainable Environment and encouraged the students to raise awareness about the importance of environmental conservation and promotes actions to protect our planet by bridging the ozone gap for a sustainable future.
Dr. Parul Maurya, Programme Officer, IIT (ISM) EIACP (PC-RP) delivered a keynote lecture on "Ozone Layer Depletion, Its Implications and Solutions", Mr. Sanchit Kumar, SRF, Dept. of ESE, IIT(ISM) Dhanbad discussed about Mission LiFE: Lifestyle for Environment and its 7 themes and Mr. Bishwajit Das, Information Officer sensitized the participants with visuals of Mission LiFE short videos and awareness materials/infographics highlighting the 7 themes of the LiFE along with A-Z Green Resolution posters.
Around 150 School children (Std.-VIII to Std.-XII) and College students from various schools and colleges of Dhanbad and nearby areas attended the program and took part in the activities during the program. The students even visited the IIT(ISM) EIACP Centre and laboratories of Department of Environmental Science & Engineering, IIT(ISM) and interacted with the PhD research scholars and gained knowledge about the working/ functions of different instruments that are present in the laboratories. The program concluded with the Mission LiFE pledge, taken by the participants.
