EIACP (PC-RP) on Environmental Problems of Mining

IIT(ISM) EIACP (PC-RP) team visited Banwasi Seva Ashram at Govindpur, Sonbhadra district, UP and organized an awareness campaign on Mission LiFE: Lifestyle for Environment. Mr. Bishwajit Das, Information Officer, IIT(ISM) EIACP (PC-RP) briefed about Mission LiFE, the mantra given by our Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi at the UN CC COP26, held in Glassgow in 2021 and discussed about the 7 themes of Mission LiFE and the comprehensive and non-exhaustive list of 75 individual LiFE actions across 7 categories of Mission LiFE. Mr. Bishwajit Das talked about the slogan for Mission LiFE, i.e. "Prakruti Rakshati Rakshita" and said how we can bring behavioral changes in our individual day-to-day lifestyle, find alternative sustainable ways and become pro-planet-person. Senior Research Fellow, Mr. Sanchit Kumar, Dept. of ESE, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, also informed the people and members from the Ashram committee about the different ways that IIT(ISM) has been following to bring behavioral changes among individuals for significant impact on the environment and mitigate climate crisis.

IIT(ISM) EIACP (PC-RP) team and also gained knowledge about the ashram and their thinking towards self-sufficiency and self-reliance at the village level with the community involvement by blending positive values of the traditional life and benefits of modern knowledge while avoiding undue exploitation of the people and nature. The team interacted with Banwasi Seva Ashram head Shubha Bahan who apprised about the Ashram's activities running over the years. She also discussed with the team about possibilities of nature conservation in the Sonbhadra. Mr. Bishwajit, Information Officer, EIACP (PC-RP) discussed how Mission Lifestyle for Environment as a mass campaign can help steer forward individual efforts and bring individual behavioral changes towards protecting our environment. Ramesh Bhai, an Ashram volunteer discussed his experiences pertaining to water management in Sonbhadra. During the discussion, Ashram workers Devnath Bhai and Vimal Bhai were also present and shared their opinion with the team
