International Yoga Day, observed annually on June 21st, is a global celebration dedicated to the ancient practice of yoga. Recognized by the United Nations since 2015, this day aims to raise awareness about the numerous physical, mental, and spiritual benefits of yoga and encourage people worldwide to adopt it as part of their daily lives. In addition to the personal health benefits, yoga also promotes a sense of unity and interconnectedness. It encourages individuals to recognize the interdependence of all living beings and to act with compassion towards others and the planet. This mindset aligns with the principles of sustainability and fosters a greater understanding of the need to protect and preserve the environment for future generations. The theme for this year’s International Yoga Day is “Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”, which represents “One Earth, One Family, One Future”. This theme emphasizes the healthy being of every individual irrespective of any discrimination with the regular practice of Yoga. "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam" is a Sanskrit phrase that can be translated as "the whole world is one single family."
The Yoga day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and propagated the “Adopt Healthy Lifestyle” theme of Mission LiFE: Lifestyle For Environment mantra given by our Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, with an aim to incorporate this most ancient tradition of mindfulness into our daily routine as a means to connect oneself with the world and with the nature, to bring a change in our lifestyle and create awareness within us. A total of 40 students, research scholars, faculty members and staff actively participated in this event by performing different yoga asanas like Ardha Chakrasana, Ustrasana, Vajrasana, Shashankasana, Nadi Shodhan Pranayam and Dhyana, which was followed by Shanti Path. At the end of the event all the participants also took the Lifestyle for Environment Pledge.
