World Environment Day 2023 Celebrated by IIT(ISM) EAICP (PC-RP)

IIT(ISM) EAICP (PC-RP), Department of Environmental Science & Engineering, IIT(ISM) Dhanbad celebrated World Environment Day on 5th June 2023 by engaging all students, research scholars, faculty members and staffs through various activities. The theme for this year’s World Environment Day is Solutions to Plastic Pollution under the campaign #BeatPlasticPollution .This year’s theme focuses on encouraging people to give up on the usage of plastic and identify it as the source of environmental degradation. It is a reminder that people’s actions on plastic pollution matters. Changing individual and community behavior alone can significantly impact environmental problems. The World Environment Day celebration event was graced by Sri Sanjeev Kumar, Addl. Principal Chief Conservator of Forest, CAMPA, Govt. of Jharkhand as the Chief Guest via online platform.

 

At the outset of the event Prof. Anshumali, HOD/ESE and Coordinator, IIT(ISM) EIACP (PC-RP) in his welcome address welcomed the Chief Guest, all the dignitaries, students, research scholars, staffs, participants and guests. Prof. Dheeraj Kumar, Deputy Director, IIT(ISM) Dhanbad inaugural address and said about the need of reducing use of SUPs and how Mission LiFE is propelling and encouraging masses towards adopting a sustainable lifestyle. Prof. Anshumali then recited brief biography of the Chief Guest, Sri Sanjeev Kumar which was then followed by the inauguration of Special Edition of Monograph on Mission LiFE (ISSN: 0972-4656) by the Chief Guest, Sri Sanjeev Kumar. Sri Sanjeev Kumar in his special address praised the efforts of IIT(ISM) EIACP (PC-RP) in raising awareness under the Mission LiFE Programme and talked about the 7 themes and 75 action plans present under Mission LiFE.

 

To mark the World Environment Day, IIT(ISM) EIACP (PC-RP) in association with Horticulture Department, IIT(ISM) Dhanbad organized a plantation drive to show our commitment towards the environment and aid in combating the negative consequences of climate change. Students, research scholars, faculty members, staffs along with Prof. Dheeraj Kumar, Dy. Director, IIT(ISM) Dhanbad and Prof. Anshumali, HOD/ESE & Coordinator, EIACP (PC-RP) IIT(ISM) Dhanbad actively participated in the event and planted 250 nos. of plants comprising of fruit plants, forest plants and evergreen plants.

 

School children, UG/PG students and research scholars participated in the Sit-n-Draw competition, Essay Writing Competition and Poster Presentation Competition under different categories, organized by IIT(ISM) EIACP (PC-RP) on the occasion of World Environment Day 2023, encouraging students to showcase their creativity and express their ideas on environmental protection. A total of 60 nos. of students participated in the competition. These competitions aimed to inspire the younger generation to actively participate in safeguarding our environment.
