Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines) Dhanbad today launched three-months long skill development programme on "Assistant Mine Surveyor Course (MIN/Q1103)" for enhancing the employability of youths under the scheme of Pradhan mantri Kaushal Vikash Yojna (PMKVY 4.0). The program was organized by Department of Mining Engineering, IIT(ISM) Dhanbad at GJLT Auditorium, IIT(ISM) Dhanbad.
Shri PN Singh, MP of Dhanbad while addressing the function as chief guest said that skill development not only helps in increasing the efficiency of workers but also averts accidents in different sectors including mining. Citing one example, he further said that unskilled displaced people from mining projects getting jobs in mining companies in lieu of their land lost could better perform their job, if they possess the required skill in relevant field of their work. “Skill and expertise are quite crucial in present times as earlier a lot of difficulties, particularly with respect to safety, had to be faced due to engagement of unskilled workforce” said Singh. He also elaborated about the Mission and Vision of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship which, besides helping the unemployed get jobs, also ensures coordination of all skill development efforts across the country. He also lauded the efforts of IIT (ISM) in providing skill development training to not only the Daily Wage earners of the institute but also to other unemployed young people in order to enhance their skill and improve their employability.
Prof Rajiv Shekhar, Director of IIT (ISM) who was present during the function through online mode, said, IIT (ISM) became the first institute in the country which has launched skill development training under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikash Yojna (PMKVY 4.0). Notably, PMKVY was launched by Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi on April 15 with the aim of making Indian residents self-sufficient. IIT (ISM) will be providing training to 300 unemployed young people in Mine Surveying, out of which the training for the first batch of 90 began from today. Prof Shekhar further informed that the computer training for the school students of Class VIII to X of different schools of Dhanbad was also conducted by IIT (ISM) and this apart the skill development training of Daily Wage Earners was also conducted for which the certificates were distributed recently. “The skill development training in Mine Surveying presently being imparted at the institute has great significance with regard to safety etc” summed up Prof Shekhar.
Prof Dhiraj Kumar, Deputy Director of IIT (ISM), on the other hand, threw light on the background of the training programme and said, “We have received a letter from the Ministry of Skill Development with regard to providing training to around 300 unskilled persons and we decided to impart training in the field of Mine Surveying”. He further said that besides the experts of IIT (ISM), retired surveyors of mining company BCCL and other Mine Surveyors will also act as instructors during the three-month training programme of Mine Surveying, which began today.
