MGMI Odisha branch organises national seminar at MCL

A galaxy of experts from mining, metal and geological sciences congregated here at the National Seminar on “Challenges and Strategies in Coal Mining and Transformation to Industry 4.0” – To Meet Energy Needs of the Nation, organised by the Mining, Geological and Metallurgical Institute of India (MGMI), Odisha Branch.

 

Amrit Lal Meena, Secretary to Government of India, Ministry of Coal, who was the Chief Guest at the inaugural session, delivered the keynote address through video conferencing which was also attended through video conferencing by Pramod Agrawal, Chairman, Coal India Limited.

 

O P Singh, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), who is also the Chairman of MGMI-Odisha Branch, delivered the inaugural address and inaugurated the National Seminar. Prominent among others at the seminar were Keshav Rao, Director (Personnel), Jugal Kumar Borah, Director (Technical/Projects and Planning) and A K Behura, Director (Finance) of MCL.

 

The seminar witnessed delegates from different public and private sector Enterprises (46) as well as technical institutions (4 Nos).

 

During the technical panel sessions, at least 48 technical papers were received from authors of diverse engineering background. Experts discussed challenges related to land acquisition, road map to net zero carbon, coal transportation and logistics, bulk material handling and evacuation, digitalization in mining and autonomous HEMM, Industry 4.0, Strata Control and sustainable mining.

 

Meanwhile, an exhibition was also inaugurated by O P Singh, CMD-MCL, where 15 different organisations like Volvo, Squadrone, CHRP, etc displayed their exhibits on latest technologies, virtual reality, equipment, traffic management solutions, lighting solutions, energy efficiency measures, etc.

 

MGMI, established in 1906, is one of the oldest professional societies for all personnel associated with the study and practices of the minerals and energy industries in India. Having 16 branches with headquarters at Kolkata, MGMI provides a forum for sharing experiences and learning of the latest best practices and technologies.
