Training Program & Study Tour on "Sustainable Management of Mineral Resources in
Nigerian Mining Sector" under World Bank aided Project on Capacity Building in
Environmental Management

 

August 30 – September 5, 2010

 

Training Program cum Study Tour is part of a Capacity Building program in Environmental management for the Nigerian Mining Sector, financed by a credit facility of the World Bank under the Sustainable Management of Mineral Resources Project in Nigeria and is being executed by the Indian School of Mines. ISM is organising this program during Aug. 30 – Sept. 5, 2010 for 13 Nigerian Officials from the Ministry of Mines and Steel Development, the Federal Ministry of Environment and the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency, respectively.

 

Apart from the Interactive Sessions as per the Module developed and finalised in consultation with the Project Management Unit, Sustainable Management of Mineral Resources Project in Nigeria and the World Bank Consultants, Study Tour is being provided to Subsided & Mine Fire Mine Sites with Demonstration of Best Practices and also R&R Sites for Appraisal of Social Impacts & Mitigation Aspects.

 

Program also witnessed the presentations from the participants on specific environmental & social problems and the ISM faculty presented them with various standard methodologies, the Indian Experience and the best management practices, - the Nigerian Mining Sector can adopt. Interactive Sessions are also facilitated with the DGMS, JRDA, BCCL, CIMFR.

 

Valedictory Function of the program was graced by Shri P K Lahiri (IAS Retd.), Chairman, ISM EB & GC & Prof. T Kumar, Director, ISM presided over the Function.
