IIT(ISM)ENVIS Centre (Resource Partner) and Department of Environmental Science & Engineering of Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad organized various activities to celebrate World Environment Day on 5th June, 2019.
Each World Environment Day is organized around a theme that focuses attention on a particularly pressing environmental concern. The theme for 2019, "Air Pollution" is a call to action call to combat this global crisis. The topic invites us all to consider how we can change our everyday lives to reduce the amount of air pollution we produce, and thwart its contribution to global warming and its effects on our own health. The Chief Guest for the program was Prof. Rajiv Shekhar, Director, IIT(ISM), Dhanbad.
On this occasion various programs were organized, like, Sit-n-Draw Competition for the children from Nursery to Class- XII, Essay Witing Competition for the Student of Class- IX to Class- XII and Poster Presentation Competition for B.tech, M.Tech Students and Ph.D Research Scholars.
On this ocassion of World Environmnet Day more than one hundred plants and saplings of different species were planted at different places within the campus of Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines) and few around the campus. Prof. Rajiv Shekhar (Director, IIT (ISM), Dhanbad), Prof S.K. Gupta (HOD of Department of Environmental Science & Engineering & Coordinator, IIT(ISM) ENVIS Center), Prof. Vipin Kumar (Associate Professor, Dept. of Environmental Science & Engineering & Co-coordinator, IIT(ISM) ENVIS Center),along with other faculty members and students from various departments took part in the plantation and graced the program with their presence. Dr. A. K. Mishra (Art Teacher, Delhi Public, School, Dhanbad) was invited as a judge for the sit & draw competition and Prof. Saumya Singh (Associate Professor, Department of Management Studies, IIT(ISM), Dhanbad) was invited as a judge for the essay writing competition.

PROGRAMME FOR WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY
1. Sit-n-Draw Competition:
School going children from Nursery to Std. XII were welcomed to participate in the Sit-n-Draw competition and expressed their views through their art. The Students were grouped into 4 different category each having a different theme and topic to draw.
