16th of September is annually celebrated as the World Ozone Day since 1994. This day was designated as World Ozone Day by a declaration which was made by United Nations on December 19, 2000. It was done to commemorate the signing of Montreal Protocol against the depletion of ozone layer in the year 1987. This day plays a very crucial role as it acts as a platform to discuss with students, friends, family, people and acquaintances in terms of contributing their share towards the well-being of our planet ‘Earth’ through our efforts to limit the production and release of harmful gases that are the major cause of ozone layer depletion.
In this connection IIT(ISM) ENVIS Center (RP) today celebrated the World Ozone Day. Prof. S.K. Gupta, HOD/ESE & ENVIS Coordinator and Dr. Vipin Kumar, Asst. Prof. & ENVIS Co-coordinator welcomed the guests and addressed them on World Ozone Day. Dr. M.K. Jain, Assoc. Prof./ESE addressed all on Ozone Day about the need for environmental awareness towards depletion of ozone layer. A talk on "The Science of Ozone Layer" and about Montreal Protocol was delivered by Prof. A.K. Pal, Ex-Prof./Dept. of ESE. Few documentary videos related to World Ozone Day were also shown. On this occasion various events like speech, poem recitation, ppt presentation were also organized. Faculty members, Staffs, Research Scholars and the GSDP Participants were present to celebrate the World Ozone Day.
