“Future Trends in Mining-Tomorrow Mine-Safe Mine”
held on 25th and 26th May 2018 at Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru

 

 

Two days National Conference on “Future Trends in Mining (Tomorrow Mine-Safe Mine) was held at J. N. Tata Auditorium, Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru on 25th and 26th May 2018 in association with Mines Safety Association Karnataka (MSAK). The event was held on the occasion of Golden Jubilee Celebrations of MSAK, which came into existence in the year 1968. The event was held under the aegis of Directorate General of Mines Safety and supported by Department of Mines & Geology, Government of Karnataka.

 

The inaugural session was chaired by Shri Prasanta Kumar Sarkar, Director General of Mines Safety, as Chief Guest, Shri N. S. Prasanna Kumar, Director, Department of Mines & Geology, Government of Karnataka and Shri N. K. Nanda, Director (Technical), M/s NMDC Ltd., as guest of honor. The event was presided over by Dr. Meda Venkataiah, ED, M/s MSPL & Chairman MSAK.

 

About 510 delegates all around mining industry covering Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamilnadu State participated in the conference. The participants were invited from the mining industry covering the jurisdiction of South-Central Zone, Hyderabad and Southern Zone, Bengaluru.

  2. New trends in Exploration in Strategic & Rare Earth Minerals
  3. Advance technology in Mining Exploration
  4. Sustainable Mining & Development
  5. Alternative systems of transportation: Downhill conveyors and railway sidings

 

Following technical papers on occupational health and safety of persons working in mines were presented by DGMS officers in the first technical session:

 

  1. New amendments to improve safety standards by Shri S. S. Prasad, Director of Mines Safety, Bilaspur Region
  2. Accident Analysis in Opencast Mining by Shri Manish Murkute, Director of Mines Safety, Ballari Region
  3. Employment of Contractual workers and Issues by Shri B. P. Singh, Director of Mines Safety, Chennai Region
  4. Occupational Health Hazards by Dr. George John, AD(OH), Dhanbad

 

The conference was all round successful in conveying views in all technical sessions for meaningful discussions and interactions. The recommendations of the conference will be circulated in due course of time to all stake holders including different Central/ State Government departments.

 

Retired DGMS officials and MSAK officials were felicitated in the inaugural and valedictory session.
