NTPC to take up power plant in Margherita

 

GUWAHATI | March 2, 2017: The State Government today decided to engage the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) to prepare a detailed project report for setting up of a thermal power plant in Margherita. This decision was taken in a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal to finalise the modalities for setting up of a 1600 MW power plant in Mergherita.

 

The Coal India Limited would provide coal linkage to the project from Northeastern coalfields.

 

Sonowal asked the NTPC to prepare the DPR and submit it to the government at a faster rate so that works of the project can take off very soon. It may be mentioned that the 1600 MW Power Project in Margherita will have two units with an installed capacity of 800 MW each.

 

Sonowal requested the Coal India Limited to set up an international standard football stadium at Margherita to which Chairman of Coal India Limited agreed and assured that the Maharatna Company would construct a football stadium with state of the art facilities in the subdivisional town.

 

Minister of State Pallab Lochan Das, Chief Secretary VK Pipersenia, Additional Chief Secretary (Power) Rajib Bora, Additional Chief Secretary (Mines and Minerals) Ravi Capoor, Commissioner and Secretary to Chief Minister Sanjay Lohiya, CIL Chairman S Bhattacharya, NTPC CMD Gurdeep Singh, MD of Assam Power Generation Company Limited MC Gogoi and a host of senior officers were present at the meeting.
