Coal India Director N Kumar passes away

 

NEW DELHI | Oct 19, 2016: State-owned Coal India Limited (CIL) today announced the demise of one of its directors N Kumar.

 

"N Kumar who was working as Director (Tech) of Coal India Ltd (CIL) died on October 18, and hence ceased to be the Director of the company," CIL said in a filing to BSE.

 

Kumar had graduated in mining engineering (B.Tech-Mining) from Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad in 1980. He joined Central Coalfields Ltd (CCL) as junior executive trainee the same year.

 

He had assumed the charge of Director (Technical) of Coal India Limited on February 1, 2012.

 

In first 20 years in CCL, he worked for almost 6 years as a manager and seven years as project officer.

 

He was transferred to Eastern Coalfields Ltd (ECL) in 2001 in the same capacity and assumed the charge of General Manager in 2004 and Chief General Manager in 2007.

 

He had spent most of his career in reviving difficult underground and opencast mines and had the experience of working with almost all kind of mechanisation in underground and opencast.

 

He was actively associated with indigenisation of long wall equipment and had presented a number of papers on its successful implementation, it added.

 

Kumar was fond of cricket, books, old melody songs and Rabindra Sangeet too, it added.
