NK Nanda selected NMDC CMD

Narendra Kumar Nanda, Director (Technical), NMDC, has been selected for the post of Chairman-cum-Managing Director, National Mineral Development Corporation Limited (NMDC) at Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) meeting held on September 26, 2016, Bureaucracy Today has learnt.

 

As many as six persons were interviewed for the same.

 

His selection for the post comes after the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has rejected government headhunter PSEB's recommendation for appointment of CCL's CMD Gopal Singh as Chairman and Managing Director of NMDC.

 

Nanda has been Director Technical of NMDC Ltd since December 2008. He was Chairman cum Managing Director from January 2012 to 25 May 2012.

 

Nanda has approximately 27 years of experience in the field of mining.

 

Prior to being appointed on the Board of NMDC, Nanda was also associated with Hindustan Copper Limited.

 

He joined NMDC as Deputy Mining Engineer in the year 1989 and has served in various positions such as Statutory Mines Manager and General Manager-Head of the project. He has been a Director of Neelachal Ispat Nigam Limited since January 25, 2010 and NMDC Limited since December 1, 2008. He has been posted as Project Manager, Donimalai in 2006 and promoted as General Manager in 2007. During this period he implemented new technology like high rate thickener and Distribution Control System (DCS) in process plant.

 

During his earlier stint, Nanda has received a Certificate of Recognition as Qualified Person to prepare Mining Plans from Indian Bureau of Mines and possesses a 1st Class Competency Certificate to manage multifarious open cast mines issued by the Director General of Mine Safety, Dhanbad. He is also a fellow member of the Institution of Engineers (India), a fellow member of the Mining Engineers Association of India and a Council Member of the Mining Engineers Association of India.

 

Nanda completed his Bachelor's Degree in Mining with a 1st Division from Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad and a Master's Degree in Mining from Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad.
