The Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) has planned to increase power generation to 19,000 MW by 2025 by diversifying into coal and renewable energy, said Sarat Kumar Acharya, Chairman-cum-Managing Director of NLC.

Delivering his speech after unfurling the national tri-colour on the 67{+t}{+h}Republic Day on the NLC premises on Tuesday, Mr. Acharya said that NLC has plans to become a 19,000 MW company by 2025 and already 6,000 MW coal-based power generation and 2500 MW lignite based power generation units are underway.

“NLC is no more a company limited to lignite mining and lignite-based power generation and has diversified into coal-based power generation, renewable energy and coal mining. We have set our foot prints in other parts of the country and are poised to be a company with pan Indian stature.”

The company has a target of adding 4,000 MW in renewable energy and another 3,000 MW through acquisition of power assets.

Mr. Acharya said that NLC had been allotted a coal block in Jharkhand and it had requested the Ministry of Coal to allot further coal blocks which will fuel its capacity addition in coal-based generation.

The diversification and expansion plans are propelling the company to new heights.

A change in mindset is required to break the comfort zone, accept the challenges to achieve the growth plans.

Recruitment drive
For the first time, a special recruitment drive was held and about 115 persons with disabilities would be a part of NLC family, he added.

Directors Rakesh Kumar, Subir Das, V. Thangapandian and P. Selvakumar, Shivaraj Singh, Chief Vigilance Officer and N. Muthu, Executive Director (Human Resources) participated.
