Singareni to start drilling at Bayyaram

Singareni Collieries will undertake exploration drilling at Bayyaram in Khammam district. It planned to drill 10 holes and has taken up drilling of three holes now.

 

“Work related to drilling holes is on and we are mobilising the exploratory drills," said an official. SCCL is entrusted with exploring of iron ore at Bayyaram. The extracted ore will be made available to the company that comes forward to set up a steel factory here. The drilling of holes is part of the exercise to make a preliminary report for making the quality and quantity assessment of iron ore.

 

This also marks SCCL’s diversification into mining of iron ore and other minerals. This apart, power generation- thermal, wind and solar-, explosive manufacturing, coal washing, processing of over burden, underground coal gasification, surface coal gasification and coal bed methane are the other diversifications for Singareni.SCCL is collaborating with State Mines and geology Department for exploring iron ore in Bayyaram village. Reconnaissance and topography survey is already taken up, SCCL chairman and managing director N Sridhar had earlier said.

 

Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao had earlier urged the Minister for Steel and Mines Narendra Singh Tomar, during the latter’s visit to the state a few weeks ago, to expedite setting up of the proposed integrated steel plant in Telangana as it would aid in employment creation.

 

Steel Authority of India (SAIL) has prepared a feasibility report and carried out site inspection and market analysis for the same. Accordingly, recommendations have been made for consideration by the state government and Government of India. These include tax concessions, interest and capex subsiy and recalculation of IRR. The task force set up by the Ministry of steels and mining to assess the viability of the proposed steel plant was expected to submit its report in two-three months. It had representatives from the Centre, Telangana government and SAIL.
