Steps Apace to Check Anomalies in Sand Mining

VIJAYAWADA | Jun 24, 2015: The Guntur district administration has begun an exercise to check irregularities in sand quarrying.

A meeting of officials here on Tuesday decided to load sand in trucks on first-come-first-served basis. There would be two lines - one for trucks and the other for tractors. The police department was asked to see that the movement of vehicles for lifting sand was orderly.

The meeting decided that sand should be quarried strictly within the boundaries of the reaches and in view of the rainy season, loading of sand should be done at the ramps of reaches except the Rayapudi reach.

It was also decided that CC cameras should be installed to ensure that overloading was not done in any truck. A decision was taken to allow sand quarrying with the help of machines to the extent that it would not affect the water table. Even for carrying out this, prior approval of the collector was mandatory, an official press release said.
