Rajasthan HC issues notices over allotment of marble mines

JAIPUR | May 14, 2015: The Rajasthan high court has on Wednesday issued notices to the Union ministry of environment and forest; principal secretary, mines and director mines and geology over allotment of marble mines to a non-tribal in the 'scheduled area' in Banswara district.

The division bench of justice A K Singh and A S Grewal issued notices on a petition filed by Manava Sewa Rashtriya Ekta Janjagriti Sansthan.

The petition said 81 villages in the tribal dominated three districts of Banswara, Dungarpur and Udaipur were declared as scheduled areas by the government in 1980 and no marble mining could be allowed to a non-tribal in these villages.

However, the mining department in Feb 2013 allotted the marble mine to a non tribal, R K Marbles, in a clandestine manner in the Tripura Sundhari area of Banswara district.

Counsel for the petitioner, Lokesh Sharma said the mining department lifted the ban on sanctioning new mining for just four days to allot the mines to a non-tribal and imposed the ban again.
