Goa cuts registration fees of mining leases

PANAJI | May 11, 2015: The Goa Cabinet has recently drastically reduced the registration fees in respect to granting, renewal and transfer of iron ore mining leases from 100 per cent to 5 per cent of stamp duty. The decision was taken following pleas from the mining industry which is looking forward to resume mining activity, which had remained under ban for nearly two years.

Recently, after the State government’s plea, the Centre had reduced, from 30 per cent to 10 per cent, the export duty on low grade ore. Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said on Friday that focusing on employment generation for local youth, the Goa Investment Board has recently cleared 38 industrial projects which are non-polluting. He said that the government will ensure that nearly 80 per cent of jobs generated in projects in Goa would go to local youth.
