KSSP seeks sand-mining study

Date | Apr 15, 2015: The Kerala Sasthra Sahithya Parishad (KSSP) district unit has demanded that environmental clearance for sand-mining be given at authorised sand-mining points (kadavus) after completing a scientific study by the Centre for Environment and Development.

KSSP office-bearers in a statement here on Tuesday demanded that urgent steps be taken to protect the banks of rivers like Valapattanam and Anjarakkandy and the ecologically sensitive Pamburuthi island. Two mounds near the Pamburuthi island in the Valapattanam river had submerged. Ottathengu, a vast sand mound under the Parassini bridge, was also under water, they said.
