Government can't control illegal mining: Minister

AJMER | Apr 14, 2015: Forest and environment minister Rajkumar Rinwa on Monday admitted that mining mafias in Rajasthan are so powerful that mines department can't control illegal mining. The department lacks necessary manpower and weapons to take on mining mafias in an effective manner.

Rinwa maintained that to curb the growing menace of illegal mining, the govt needs the help of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) or Border Security Force (BSF).

"Controlling mafias is not easy as they possess more sophisticated weapons and have information technology. They have information of every movement and raid of mines department and therefore it is hard to compete with them. At times, it is even difficult to enter in their area," said the minister.

Rinwa on Monday came to Ajmer to participate in a religious ceremony at Vaishalli Nagar. He stressed on the fact that the mines department has less resources and less manpower and therefore special plan is required to control illegal mining in the state.

Though the minister avoided the question that why government dissolved hiring of 1,000 mines constable, Rinwa said their government is planning to do something.
