Notices to 6 mining firms for illegal use of forest link road

Hosapete (Ballari dist) | Apr 09, 2015: Takat Singh Ranavat, the Conservator of Forests of the Ballari sub-division, has issued notices to six mining companies in the district, asking them not to use the link road through the forest without the permission of the department.

Ranavat has written to the deputy director of the mines and geology department on March 31, not to issue permits to transport ore to those companies that are using the road in violation of rules.

As per the Forest Act, 1980, firms are supposed to take permission from the Central government to use link roads passing through forest areas. However, six mining companies in the Sandur south and north ranges of the Ballari sub-division have been using the forest link road without the permission.

The companies have not heeded the direction by the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and the State monitoring committee to get the necessary permission.

Zeenat Transport Company and M Hanumantharao Company of Ballari; P Balasubba Shetty and Sons, Ramagad Minerals and Mining in Hosapete; Veerabhadrappa Sangappa and Company of Sandur are the ‘A’ category companies that have not taken the necessary permission. Goggagurushantaiah and Brothers of Hosapete, a ‘B’ category firm, has also not availed the permission.

Y B Anand, the incharge deputy director of the Mines and Geology department, Hosapete, said that the department had decided not to issue the permits to the six companies till they obtain permission from the Central government to use the link road.

Notices will also be issued to the six firms, asking them to begin their activities only after getting the permission.
