Bantwal | Apr 05, 2015: In order to curb the rampant sand mining at Nandavara that comes at the limits of Sajipamunnor gram panchayat, 9 boats were seized from the spot of Netravati River, here, said Tahsildar Purandar Hegde.

In a well co-ordinated operation against illegal sand mining was led by Tahsildar, revenue officials and police relocated the laborers from Bihar engaged in sand mining, here Saturday April 4 night.

The police personnel are deployed at the site to stall sand mining. The laborers makeshift accommodations were dismantled, said Tahsildar Hegde.

Stern action
Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner has issued orders to take stern action on illegal sand miners and check the papers of multi-axle trucks while transporting sand. Accordingly, the police seized over 15 trucks on Saturday April 4 and released them only paying the fines.
