Resumption of mining on the horizon

NEW DELHI | March 17, 2015: The long wait by mining dependents is likely to get over by Tuesday as the draft to withdraw suspended environmental clearances (EC) of mining leases in Goa is before environment minister Prakash Javdekar for his signature. MoEF sources said the withdrawal of the EC suspension order is likely to be issued on Tuesday, immediately after the minister's signature. Directorate of mines and geology renewed 89 mining leases in a move to restart mining operations, which were suspended on September 10, 2012, after the Shah commission report on illegal mining was tabled in Parliament.
