Group gives CM March 18 deadline to get mining ECs

BICHOLIM | March 16, 2015: Members of Goa mining peoples' front in Bicholim have set a deadline of March 18 for the Goa government to get environment clearances (ECs) to restart mining activities in the state.

Addressing mediapersons at Bicholim on Sunday, front members Sandeep Parab, Suresh Desai, Balaji Desai, Yeshwant Desai, Shyam Gauthankar and others stated that chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar should fulfill his promise of getting ECs by March 18, which he had made at a public meeting held on March 13 at Mayem.

The members have threatened to agitate if Parsekar fails to fulfill his promise. On March 13, chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar was grilled by around 200 mining workers at Mayem over the issue of restarting mining activities in Goa, when he had come for a public meeting in connection with the forthcoming ZP election. The workers who were present at the spot raised anti-BJP slogans with placards in their hands and demanded the resumption of mining. Instead of going to the dais, Parsekar approached the workers and assured them to restart mining activities as soon as they get the environmental clearances.
