Mining–sole lifeline–to restart in days, CM tells CII

PANAJI | March 12, 2015: Asserting that the state government had taken all possible steps to restart mining, chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar said mining operations would resume in a matter of days.

"Resumption of mining is not, I would say, a matter of weeks or months, but a matter of days," said Parsekar, adding, "The government has taken all kinds of steps to ensure that mining resumes as soon as possible."

Parsekar was speaking at the annual day of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in Panaji late Wednesday.

Calling mining the "sole lifeline" of the state, the CM said his government had faced a very difficult time financially because of the shutdown of the mining industry.

He added that the state government had distributed over 120 crore to mining-affected people.
