PANAJI | Feb 25, 2015: The state government has decided to take action against mining companies which are delaying the completion of a comprehensive audit undertaken by the directorate of mines and geology for evaluating various irregularities and illegalities committed by the leaseholders.
This decision was taken at a review meeting convened by mines secretary Pawan Kumar Sain on Tuesday regarding functioning of the mines department to review the progress on the comprehensive audit. The meeting was called after Sain found that the progress of audit was not as per scheduled dates of completion.
Sain has directed the mines department to identify the lessees not cooperating with the auditors and initiate stern action, including penal action, incase willful disobedience of the order of the department by lessees is found.
The department has been directed to submit a report within seven days about the progress of the audit to the secretary (mines).
The meeting was attended by the CAs (chartered accountants) and the officers of mines department. The secretary was apprised of difficulties faced by the CAs in timely completion of audit, such as non-furnishing of required information in time by the lessees.
