Bhubaneswar | Feb 09, 2015: Miners in Odisha are saddled with pending revenue piling up to Rs 1,835 crore, says a statement by finance minister Pradip Amat to the state assembly.
The mining revenue arrear is pending against 24 mines. The dues are yet to be recovered from lessees like Tata Steel, Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd (MCL), Rungta Mines, Aryan Mining & Trading Corporation (AMTC), state run Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC), Tarini Minerals, RP Sao, Indian Aluminium Company and GS Mishra & Sons.
MCL is the biggest defaulter with Rs 1,322.79 crore pending on its single coal mine — Lajkura. Other MCL mines are also yet to clear off dues- Jagannath (Rs 3.89 crore), Bharatpur (Rs 6.08 crore), Ananta (Rs 4.66 crore), Balaram (Rs 5.57 crore), Lingaraj (Rs 4.06 crore), Hingula (Rs 3.73 crore), Bhubaneswari (Rs 6.90 crore), Kaniha (Rs 5.53 crore), Basundhara (Rs 2.59 crore), Orient (Rs 1.29 crore), Rampur (Rs 1.71 crore), Samleswari (Rs 8.60 crore) and Lakhanpur (Rs 9.41 crore).
Similarly, Tata Steel’s Bamebari mine in Joda circle owes Rs 291.32 crore.
OMC is saddled with Rs 4.55 crore dues whereas R P Sao’s Guali mines (Joda) has revenue arrear of Rs 70.21 crore.
Apart from mining revenue, 33 industries owe Rs 1,086.3 crore by way of industrial water cess arrears. The list includes MCL, Talcher (Rs 181.94 crore), Orient Paper Mills, Jharsuguda (Rs 52.92 crore), Shyam DRI Power Ltd, Jharsuguda (Rs 25.85 crore) and Indian Rare Earths Ltd – IREL, Berhampur (Rs 13.75 crore) to name a few.
Besides, power dues worth Rs 2,203.38 crore are pending on 29 firms. National Aluminium Company (Nalco) tops the list with an outstanding arrear of Rs 1,332.47 crore. Others in the list of arrears are Rourkela Steel Plant-RSP (Rs 75.02 crore), Paradeep Phosphates Ltd- PPL (Rs 22.92 crore), Arati Steel & Power Ltd (Rs 34.36 crore), SMC Power Generation (Rs 28.07 crore). Moreover, commercial tax dues totaling to Rs 3,986.16 crore is pending on 57 organisation/industries like RSP, Nalco, Larsen & Toubro (L&T), Jindal Stainless Ltd, Tata Steel, Jindal Steel & Power Ltd (JSPL), ITC Ltd, Birla Tyres and MMTC Ltd and others.
