NLC Mine-II gets new excavators

The Neyveli Lignite Corporation Ltd. (NLC) has commissioned two state-of-the-art excavators to remove soil in Mine-II site and bolster lignite production.

 

The two Bucket Wheel Excavators of 1400 Ltr. capacity were erected and supplied by TAKRAF INDIA LTD., Chennai in collaboration with M/s TONOVA TAKRAF GmbH, Germany at a cost of Rs. 330.03 crore including spares and tools and maintenance cost.

 

The Department of Machine Design and Research had advised replacement of the existing excavators MAN-I and MAN-II, which have served a life of more than 30 years in the Mine-II site. All the Main structural components of the equipment are indigenously manufactured.

 

The Indigenous Hoist Winch Gear box and brake frames are used in the machines for the first time in the history of NLC.

 

The imported critical components include the bucket wheel gear box, main slew gear box and discharge boom slew gearbox, main slew and discharge slew bearing.

 

The machine which will be deployed at Mine-II for removing the overburden soil will have guaranteed output of not less than 2250 Cubic Metres per Hour. The maximum cutting height of the machine is 30 meters. The electrical components are supplied by Siemens.

 

NLC CMD B. Surender Mohan commissioned the two equipment at the Specialised Mining Equipment Erection Yard near Mandarakuppam in Neyveli.

 

On the occasion, he lauded the hard work of NLC and TAKRAF employees to complete the erection of the machinery, four months ahead of the schedule.

 

Subir Das, Director (Mines); Shiv Raj Singh, Chief Vigilance Officer; Executive Directors and the senior executives and employees of NLC were present.
