RAICHUR(Karnataka) | Feb 02, 2015:
Deputy Commissioner S. Sasikanth Senthil has written to the State government recommending for inclusion of Raichur in the ongoing investigation by Criminal Investigation Department (CID) into the illegal sand mining in some of the district.
Following its commitment at the winter session of the legislature that recently concluded in Belagavi, the State government had, on January 3, ordered for CID probe into the alleged illegal sand mining in Kodagu, Mysore, Chamarajanagara, Belagavi and Vijayapura districts. Questions were raised over the exclusion of Raichur district, where the availability of sand was abundant along the rivers Krishana and Tungabhadra that respectively formed North and South borders of the district and the allegations of illegal extraction and transportation of sand were widespread.
“I have requested the State government to include Raichur district in the ongoing probe into illegal sand mining and investigate all the cases of illegal sand extraction in the last two years,” Mr. Senthil said in a press conference at his office on Monday.
