Illegal Red Sand Mining Stopped

KAKKANAD | Jan 13, 2015: In major drive, Fort Kochi Sub-collector S Suhas on Monday stopped mining of red sand at a 5.5- acre paddy filed at Edakkattu along the Edakkattu Vayal-Arakkunnam road. The Sub-collector, along with his driver, reached the spot around 6.30 am following a tip-off that illegal red sand mining was going on for several days.

“On Sunday, I received a message from a local resident about the illegal activity. It was found that the owner of the land did not have any authorisation from the authorities concerned for removing mud and to fill it on another part of the land,” Suhas said. He also directed the village officer and the special village officer to issue a stop memo to the owner of the land.

“I have asked the village officer to submit the details of the land and its owner,” Suhas said. A few days ago, the Sub-collector had seized eight trucks with mud and M-sand around at Mulanthuruthy, following a tip-off.
